Professional Writing is planning upcoming workshop(s) on poster printing and design to help students prepare their posters for symposium.
Students whose abstracts are accepted into the Poster Symposium will need to create a 3’x5’ poster to present their work, but this poster does not need to be finished in order to submit submit an abstract for consideration. What should/can my presentation look like? If in doubt, send in an abstract! Most major projects assigned in PW courses will be eligible for the symposium, including research-based proposals and white papers, posters, instructions, and other materials designed for a specific audience.

Research in professional writing sometimes looks different than research in other fields, so feel free to interpret the term “research project” broadly. Though students may participate in any other parts of the conference, ICaP/PW will only have an official presence at the Poster Symposium.Īny kind of research project is eligible. Professional Writing is specifically partnering with the Poster Symposium being held on April 9th in the PMU Ballrooms. I see several different events on the PURC website. For students, the main difference from last year will be a different submission process, a new venue, and a larger audience for their work. ICaP/PW presentations will still have their own area at the conference, and we will still be handing out PW-specific awards. As such, students will submit their projects through OUR’s system and become part of the university-wide pool of students presenting at the conference. The Purdue Undergraduate Research Conference (PURC) is run by the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), not by the PW and ICaP programs. How is this different from last year’s showcase? Students who want to participate in Showcase should submit an abstract of their project through the link available on the “Apply” webpage of the conference website by March 1st, 2019. Those who are accepted to participate in the Poster Symposium will have their posters displayed alongside other PW/ICaP posters and will be eligible for both PW and university wide awards. This new format will give professional writing students the opportunity to display and receive recognition for their work in front of a larger, university-wide audience.
This year the Professional Writing Showcase will be partnering with ICaP (Introductory Composition at Purdue) and the Office of Undergraduate Research to allow students to submit their work to both Showcase and the Purdue Undergraduate Research Conference Poster Symposium simultaneously.
